The Diversity Immigrant Visa Program was established by statute and is annually administered by the Department of State. A type of immigrant known as “diversity immigrants” from nations with historically low rates of immigration to the United States is allowed under Section 203(c) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA).
Up to 55,000 Diversity Visas (DVs) will be made available for the Fiscal Year 2023. Registration for the DV program is free of charge.
What is the eligibility?
Candidates who are chosen for the program (selectees) must satisfy straightforward but stringent qualifying conditions in order to be eligible for a DV.
Those who are citizens of nations with historically low immigration rates to the US may be admitted.
Each DV applicant must satisfy the program’s requirements for education and job experience by possessing one of the following: at least a high school diploma, which is the equivalent of completing a 12-year formal elementary and secondary education course,
two years of work experience in the last five years in a job that calls for at least two years of education or training. To determine the appropriate job experience, the Department of State will consult the O*Net Online database of the U.S. Department of Labor.
