Cost to get Student Visa in Japan?

  • Visas must be obtained by paying fees. A single-entry visa costs around 3,000 yen, a double-entry or multiple-entry visa costs 6,000 yen, and a transit visa costs 700 yen. The currency in which the Embassy or Consulate-General is situated is used to collect fees.
  • Fees may not be necessary or maybe a different amount depending on the reason for your visit and your nationality.

What is a Certificate of Eligibility?

  • As proof that a foreign national satisfies the requirements for landing in Japan, including the requirements that the activity they wish to engage in Japan at the time of the landing examination is not fraudulent and is an activity that falls under a status of residence, a regional immigration authority under the Ministry of Justice issues a Certificate of Eligibility prior to a visa application.
  • A foreign person possessing a Certificate of Eligibility will have an easier time obtaining a visa at an embassy or consulate during the typical processing time (five working days from the day after the date of the acceptance of the application). Moreover, by providing the certificate at the time of the inspection for the landing, the examination procedures will be carried out without incident (though granting of the visa is not assured).
