I would like to comment on the
services Nadi immigration office in Namaka.I am a Fiji citizen living in Melbourne. Due to covid lockdowns I could not renew my expired Fiji passport. I had planned holidays to visit Fiji once borders opened .Hence I made 2 phone calls to immigration Nadi number and on both occasions spoke to a Nicole Ram who on both occasions told me that walk ins to the office would be fine to get my passport renewed. I got a list of documents that I needed to bring along which I did. To be double sure I booked an appointment with Nicole for 9.30 am o the 9th August 2022.Upon arriving in Nadi on this date I went straight to meet Nicole at the Namaka office only to be told she is based at the Suva office and Nadi phones were picked up by Suva staff.What pathetic Customer service. The officer Shaleshni at the Nadi office outrightly refused to take my application. The office was full to the door with frustrated customers queuing out the door in 31 degrees heat.I requested to see th Officer in Charge who kindly offered to assist me
.After waiting for 1 hour I was called to lodge my application. Appalingly half way through my application the lady told me I that I needed to get a new birth certificate with my surname on it if my passport details were to be the same as my expired one.I tried to reason out how could I have been born with my married name but to no avail.Rules had changed overnight which I was made aware during phone and email contacts with Nicole. .So I agreed to have just my maiden name.That being sorted the system froze for 20 mins. After 20 mins my photos and documents were scanned ready for payment only to be to by Shaleshni that my application is likely to be rejected since I didn’t have the new format birth certificate. I was soo annoyed with this staff but kept my cool.I did question her why I was not given the correct information when I made the first contact with the Officer in charge that my. I got hold of all my documents as I had wasted my whole morning of my first day in Fiji. The Immigration head needs to look into the services at the Nadi office as I was not the only one with such experience.Staff need to swallow their arrogance and train on Customer service.
