I crossed by automobile through Matamoros, Mexico on June 25 at approximately 9:15 a.m. I proceeded to obtain a visitors visa/permit at the immigration station in Matamoros. I paid my fee of $35.00 and also four others also traveling with me in automobile. The immigration officials stated they could not take electronic payments (credit cards) and only took cash. I paid $175 US dollars CASH and did not receive a receipt or proof of payment. I requested a receipt and the official stated my passport was entered into the system and I would receive an email. (I have previously paid with credit card and obtained a receipt.) Upon departing Mexico on June 29 via San Luis Potosi airport I was asked to report to the immigration station and again paid an additional fee with penalty due to being in the country “illegally and not obtaining a visitor’s visa when I entered Mexico.” I stated to the official that I had already paid in Matamoros and I did not receive a receipt. He stated I was to pay the fee. How can I report immigration officials in Matamoros are requesting cash payments and yet are not properly admitting visitors with the necessary credentials/visas?
