Oman to Open Embassy in Belarus: Strengthening Diplomatic and Economic Ties in 2026

Muscat, Oman — In a strategic diplomatic move, His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik has issued Royal Decree No. 33/2026 to formally establish an Omani embassy in the Republic of Belarus, marking a significant milestone in bilateral relations between the two nations.

This landmark decision stems from the Sultan’s official visit to Minsk last year, during which high-level discussions with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko took place. The talks concentrated on enhancing cooperation in trade, investment, industry, and other strategic areas.

Why the Embassy Matters?

The establishment of an embassy in Minsk underscores Oman’s intention to enhance diplomatic relations with Belarus, focusing on political, economic, and cultural ties. This permanent diplomatic presence aims to improve communication and policy coordination, ensuring more effective political dialogue. Economically, the embassy will facilitate bilateral trade, attract investments, and foster collaborative industrial and commercial initiatives. Furthermore, it will provide essential consular services, thereby supporting the needs of Omani and Belarusian citizens, investors, and travelers, and strengthening people-to-people connections.

A Growing Partnership

The move builds on a series of cooperative agreements signed during His Majesty’s visit to Minsk, including initiatives aimed at expanding bilateral ties in tourism and travel, including visa-free travel discussions, and comprehensive cooperation across sectors such as agriculture, technology, and health.

Analysts indicate that Oman’s decision to open an embassy underscores its dedication to enhancing its global diplomatic presence and fostering economic partnerships with Eastern European countries. The establishment of the embassy, effective from February 22, 2026, is anticipated to significantly strengthen the relations between Oman and Belarus in the forthcoming years.

Looking Forward

As Oman continues to diversify its international partnerships, this diplomatic milestone with Belarus sets the stage for broader engagement in areas like trade, investment, cultural exchange, and tourism, positioning both countries for future growth and cooperation.
