About Kenya

One of East Africa’s most popular tourist destinations, Kenya is known for its beautiful scenery and vast wildlife preserves. As a result, its Indian Ocean coast has served as a gateway for goods from the Arabian and Asian continents for many centuries. Mombasa, a historic Swahili city, is located on that coast, which is home to some of Africa’s best beaches and is a major cultural and culinary center for the country. This sprawling city, like so many others in Africa, is a study in contrast, with its modern skyscrapers looking out over shanties that are home to refugees fleeing civil war in neighboring countries. Nairobi is the capital of Kenya and the largest city in Africa.

A total of 46 million Kenyans call the country home (2015). The official languages of Tanzania are Swahili and English, as well as a slew of indigenous dialects, primarily Kikuyu and Luhya.

Why Kenya is famous

  • There are few places in Africa where you can see all five of the Big Five (African lion; African elephant; Cape buffalo; African leopard; white/black rhinos) in one place.
  • Kenyan authorities introduced an e-visa system in 2015, meaning British travelers no longer need to apply for entry documents before traveling, or queue at the airport for all the right stamps.
  • Kenya is one of the best African countries to visit if you’ve never been on a safari to see wildlife.
  • There is no better place to see big cats in Africa than the Maasai Mara in Kenya.
  • As a result of Kenya’s location, it provides the perfect mix of wildlife-spotting adventures in its dozens of national parks and beach relaxation in the Indian Ocean.
