About Kosovo

Kosovo is a self-declared independent state in the Balkans region of Europe. Kosovo’s 2008 declaration of independence from Serbia was acknowledged by the United States and the majority of EU members—including several EU members—but was not recognized by Serbia, Russia, or a significant number of other countries. More than twice the size of Cyprus (island) or the entire US state of Delaware, it has an area of 10,887 square kilometers.

With a total population of approximately 1.8 million people, the vast majority (nearly 90%) are ethnically Albanian. It’s Pristina, Kosovo’s capital and largest city. Among the languages spoken here are Albanian and Serbian. Islam is the predominant faith in the country (more than 97 percent ).
