Procedure for applying for Visa

Slovakia is a member of both the Schengen Agreement and the European Union. You will need to apply for a different Schengen Visa if you intend to visit, study, or work in Slovakia on a permanent basis.

  • The visa application must be made in person at the embassy or visa center. On behalf of minors, a legal representative applies for a visa. This does not change the requirement for the minor applicant to be present at the time of the application, especially if he or she is required to provide fingerprints.
  • In some cases, you may be exempt from the requirement of personal presence when applying for a visa.
  • For more information, contact the relevant embassy.
A professional, cultural, sports, or educational association or institution, or an accredited intermediary body, may also apply for a visa on the applicant’s behalf.

Types of Slovakia Visa

1. Airport Transit Visa (A)

You can normally stay in the international transit zone at the airport without a visa during a stop or transfer between the two stages of an international flight. Some categories of aliens, depending on their nationality, are required to obtain a visa even if they do not leave the international airport transit zone. Airport transit visas only authorize transit through international airport transit areas.

2. Single Schengen visa (C visa)

The Schengen Member States generally issue uniform Schengen visas that are valid throughout the Schengen area. This visa allows you to enter the territory of the Schengen countries for a stay or a series of stays, the total duration of which does not exceed 90 days in any 180-day period, including an assessment of the period of 180 days preceding each individual day of stay. A Schengen visa has a 5-year maximum validity period.

In some cases, however, a visa with limited territorial validity may be valid only in the territory of the Member State that issued the visa or in the territory of only a few Member States.
