  • G (transit visa-China): Issued to those who transit through China.
  • C (crew visa-China): Issued to crew members on international aviation, navigation, and land transportation missions, and to family members accompanying them.
  • D (resident visa-China):Issued to an applicant who is to reside permanently in China.
  • J (journalist visa-China): J-1 is issued to foreign resident correspondents in China; J-2 is issued to foreign correspondents on temporary interview missions in China.
  • R (talent visa-China): Issued to high-level talents or those whose skills are urgently needed in China.
  • S (visa for private visits-China): Issued to family members of foreigners residing in China for work, study, etc.
  • Q (family reunion visa-China): Issued to relatives of Chinese citizens or foreigners with permanent residence permits residing in China.

Documents required to apply for China Visa Application

  • Original passport with at least 6 months of remaining validity and with blank visa pages, a photocopy of the passport’s data page and the photo page if it is separate
  • Visa application form correctly filled out ( You can either fill out an online application form and submit a printed version or download and print one from the embassy’s website and fill it out manually)
  • Recent passport-sized photos
  • Photocopy of previous Chinese passports or previous Chinese visas (applicable for those who were Chinese citizens and have obtained foreign citizenship)
  • Documents showing the travel itinerary including proof of round trip air ticket booking
  • Proof of hotel reservation
  • Letter of invitation from Chinese resident, if applicable
  • Proof of financial sustenance
  • Flight reservation and hotel reservation for China visa application

Additional required documents for minors

1. The application form must be signed by both parents.

2. Birth certificate. A copy of the applicant’s birth certificate.

3. Parents’ passport copies. A copy of the information pages of both parents’ signed passports.

How to apply for Chinese visa?

Steps for Applying for China Visa

  1. You may apply for a visa at a Chinese Embassy or Consulate General based on your State of residence. (Check Service Area Map). You need to complete and sign the visa application form and prepare necessary supporting documents.
  2. Oversize baggage or hazardous objects are NOT allowed in the Visa Office. You must pass a security check at the entrance of the Visa Office.
  3. Take a number for visa application and wait for your turn. Proceed to the window that shows your number and submit your application.
  4. You will be given a pick-up slip for your application and passport accepted. Please retain the slip and return to the Visa Office on or after the date shown on the slip to pick up your passport.
  5. You will need to pay for your visa on the pick-up day. Payment can be done by credit card (Visa or MasterCard only), money order, cashier’s check or company check.
  6. If no pick-up date is shown on the slip, you need to wait for a call or mail notification from the Visa Office as your application may require longer processing time.

Fees required to apply for China Visa

Generally the cost is $140 for an American citizen, and for citizens of other countries, the fee ranges from $30 to $90. It is normally paid on visa collection, but in some localities it must be paid when you apply.

    • Rush service: 1 business day. Available only in extreme emergencies and subject to approval by the consular officer.
